Encounter the Asian Elephant, Discover the charm of South Asia

The Asian Elephant Exhibit is the first exhibit area to be developed under the “Asian Mysteries” project which is the part of the “Seven  Major Exhibit Areas and Three Plazas” master plan at Beijing Wildlife Park. The site design incorporates South Asian natural and cultural features to recreate the Asian elephant’s native habitat, establishing a highly representative ecological and cultural showcase. With a fluid, organic layout subtly integrated with the surrounding landscape, the exhibit offers visitors a lively and engaging experience. It is one of the world’s leading Asian elephant-themed exhibits and is scheduled to open to the public in May 2027.

Theme Story

Durga Fortress
Goddess Durga is the warrior deity of ancient Hindu mythology and the daughter of the Himalayas. Mounted upon a tiger, she embodies both formidable martial prowess and maternal compassion, serving as a symbol of courage, strength, and protection.
Airavata
Airavata, the third offspring of Iravati, was born during the Churning of the Ocean of Milk (Samudra Manthan). It is depicted as a magnificent white elephant with four tusks and seven trunks. Revered as the King of Elephants, Airavata also serves as the mount of Indra (the god of thunder and rain), thus symbolizing the celestial elephant and the war elephant. Sugar Lane draws its inspiration from the vibrant sweet culture found in the bustling streets of South Asia, featuring iconic delicacies such as Indian Jalebi (syrup-soaked spirals), Nepali Laddu (sweet spheres), and Sri Lankan coconut jaggery blocks.
Fairy Vale
Fairy Meadows, located in Gilgit-Baltistan in northern Pakistan, is revered as the sacred ground where mountain fairies dance. The Tibetan Brown Bear serves as the gatekeeper of the skies. This mystical realm is a sanctuary where ancient creatures and ethereal spirits coexist in harmony.
