Hyacinth Macaws have bright, vibrant cobalt-blue plumage that displays a metallic sheen from indigo to brilliant violet-blue under different lighting.They have a large, strong black beak, which also has one of the strongest bite forces among all parrots, easily cracking nuts and even coconuts.There are bright yellow bare skin rings around the eyes and along the edges of the beak, creating a striking contrast with their blue feathers—one of their most distinctive features.

Hyacinth Macaws are highly social birds.They usually live in pairs or small groups; solitary individuals are rarely seen.Courtship, mating and bonding occur throughout the year.They are most active from morning until midday, flying out to forage in small flocks of 2–8 birds.At sunset, they return to their roosting trees to spend the night.
