Meerkat

This plan aims to break through the traditional model of single tree hollows or fixed burrows, and build a multi-level, complex underground-aboveground habitat to fully stimulate meerkats’ core natural behaviors such as digging, exploring, guarding and socializing, creating a dynamically evolving “meerkat kingdom”.

  • Core Tree Hollow TunnelsTaking a large dead tree trunk as the core structure, a three-dimensional tunnel network connecting underground and aboveground is constructed. It not only retains a natural habitat texture but also provides meerkats with a core space for concealed movement, resting and pup-rearing.
  • High-Ground Lookout PostsFive elevated wooden platforms are set up in open areas away from the main nest, each equipped with a small “sentry post”.This accurately matches meerkats’ instinct to perch high and keep watch, satisfying their natural behavior of “sentry duty to protect the group”.
  • Functional ZoningThe exhibit is naturally divided into a core living area, a peripheral guard area and a foraging and hunting area through terrain and vegetation. This allows the full display of meerkats’ family behaviors including patrolling, sentry duty, foraging and pup-rearing, creating an immersive “meerkat life observation theater” for visitors.
