Animal Nutrition

Animal Nutrition Science

We have a team of animal nutritionists, a distribution center supervisor, and experienced animal keepers.Animal nutritionists formulate diets that meet the physiological needs of more than 400 animal species in the park.Nutritionists work closely with animal healthcare, exhibit management, breeding and conservation departments to develop customized nutrition plans for each animal, based on species characteristics, growth stage, health status and behavioral needs.

Clinical Nutrition Services

We provide personalized nutrition plans for animals of different species and life stages, as well as individuals in special conditions such as injury recovery, pregnancy and lactation.By regularly monitoring body weight, body condition and other indicators, we dynamically adjust dietary ratios to ensure animals receive balanced nutrition at every life stage.

Feed Distribution Center

The park is equipped with a feed distribution center, where a professional team weighs, packages and distributes ingredients according to animal diet standards. From daily morning ingredient inspection to sorting and delivery by exhibit and individual animal, the whole process is fully documented to ensure every portion of feed is traceable and monitorable.

Dual Guarantee

Feed Procurement and Independent Cultivation For animal feed supply, we adhere to the principle of “formal procurement as the main source, independent cultivation as a supplement”, ensuring feed safety and nutritional quality from the source.Bamboo leaves, alfalfa, sheep hay and other dry or fresh forage all come from qualified suppliers that meet national inspection and quarantine standards. Each batch of ingredients is sampled and tested before entering the park to ensure no pesticide residues and no mold.

To further improve freshness and suitability for key feeds, we have established special planting areas around the park to independently grow bamboo, alfalfa and corn.During cultivation, we follow ecological standards: no chemical pesticides or chemical fertilizers, using organic fertilizers to improve soil and biological methods to control pests and diseases. The plants produced are safe and nutritious, satisfying animals’ demand for fresh, natural ingredients, while providing visitors with a transparent view of nutrition from planting to feeding.

Nutrition Monitoring and Behavioral Integration

We have established a “nutrition–behavior” dual monitoring system that closely links animal nutrient intake with behavioral performance.Nutritionists comprehensively evaluate diet suitability based on keepers’ observations of feeding behavior and activity levels, combined with weight changes and fecal test data, and make timely adjustments to maintain animal health.

Science Education and Industry Collaboration

We actively undertake the dual responsibilities of science popularization and industry support. For public education, we popularize animal nutrition knowledge through offline displays of feed samples and preparation processes (such as “What Do Chimpanzees Eat?”) and public welfare activities at schools. For industry development, we cooperate with universities and research institutions to conduct research on rare animal nutrition, promoting the overall improvement of nutrition management in the field.

Feed Emergency Reserve and Support

In response to extreme weather (heavy rain, blizzards), epidemics and other special situations, our feed distribution center has a special storage warehouse that stocks 30day supplies of shelfstable feed (compressed forage, frozen food, vitamin additives, etc.), with detailed emergency plans to ensure feed supply for all animals remains uninterrupted.
