In the field of primate conservation, chimpanzees, humankind’s closest living relatives, draw great attention to their survival status. After years of scientific management, our zoo has successfully established a thriving chimpanzee family. Its stable and active breeding record has become an important model in the regional conservation network.
A Growing and Stable Conservation Population
Through scientific social management and meticulous husbandry, our chimpanzee troop demonstrates outstanding reproductive vitality. In recent years, we have successfully bred multiple generations, and the population has continued to grow. This achievement stems from our in-depth research on chimpanzee social behavior and our scientific pairing strategy. Each newborn cub injects new vitality into our conservation population of high genetic value.
Full Expression of Natural Behaviors
In our habitat, chimpanzees exhibit a rich range of social behaviors, including sophisticated tool use, complex social alliances, and delicate parenting. The full preservation of these natural behaviors not only reflects the success of our managementbut also accumulates valuable behavioral data for potential future conservation programs.
Scientific Research Driving Conservation Progress
We keep detailed records of each individual’s growth, social relationships, and behavioral traits, and establish complete individual profiles, providing important references for understanding chimpanzee development and social behavior. We also conduct research cooperation with relevant institutions to study the developmental mechanisms of primates.
Education Promoting Conservation Awareness
At our zoo, every chimpanzee serves as a vital bridge connecting the public to nature conservation.Through carefully designed habitat exhibits, visitors can observe the real life of the chimpanzee family up close:warm interactions between mothers and infants, cooperative foraging in the group, and cubs learning and growing. These vivid scenes are not only touching but also make conservation feel tangible and accessible.
Meet Our Chimpanzees (From Our Keepers)Here’s how our animal caretakers describe the chimpanzee troop
Chimpanzee: Lucila babyMale, born in 2016, son of Quarrel and Lucila.Known as the “troublemaker celebrity” of the group — and “celebrity” here is definitely negative. He is notoriously unpopular among the others. He is extremely energetic, never resting for a moment. His favorite activity, repeated nonstop, is provoking everyone — even when others are sleeping. He simply never gets tired of causing trouble. This behavior is probably linked to his overly doting mother, Lucila. We can only describe her attitude as spoiling him rotten:no matter how badly he misbehaves, her son is always right — no arguments accepted.
Chimpanzee: MaartinMale, born in 2008, son of Quarrel and Penny.Currently the top rising contender in the troop. He is constantly challenging the dominant status of the current alpha males, Ruan and Abo.As he has matured, he has become increasingly aggressive.Who knows — he may well become the next alpha male in the near future.
Chimpanzee: ScoboMale, born in 2012, son of Ruan and Lucy. The only young male currently taking part in the struggle for dominance.Despite his young age, he has inherited his father’s dominance and regularly displays physical power toward other group members.A definite rising star.
Chimpanzee: Emma babyMale, born in 2014, son of Emma and Quarrel — as his name suggests. One of the stronger subadult males. He often acts as a big brother figure in the group and can be found supporting every growing young chimp. He’s just like a little kindergarten teacher.
Chimpanzee: Chici babyMale, born in 2014, son of Quarrel and Chici.Although he is the same age as Emma baby, their personalities are completely different. In contrast to Emma baby’s lively nature, he is quiet and solitary, preferring to be alone.Apart from his favorite food, he seems indifferent to almost everything else.
